The area is brimming with local vineyards and wineries that reflect some of the best that the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region has to offer. Here, the vineyards bask in abundant sunshine and mild Mediterranean climate, perfect for the Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre grapes that contribute to those iconic Provençal rosés that we love so much.
There are so many excellent places to visit in Saint-Tropez - restaurants, hotels, and world-class wineries, all within city limits. But sometimes you just want a cozy wine bar away from all the noise (and tourists), right? Especially if you only have a day or a few hours to explore. Lucky for you, we’ve found 3 great wine bars that will satisfy your desire to drink locally without having to board a bus and trek to a vineyard (though we highly recommend that as well).
Le Bar du Sube at Hotel Le Sube
With a perfect view of the super yachts moored in the marina, the terrace of Le Bar du Sube is an ideal spot to sit with a glass of rosé and people watch for a few hours. Located off the main drag across from the old harbor, down a corridor and up a flight of stairs, is the lounge at Le Sube. It’s hidden away enough that the clientele are mostly locals. The vibe is nautical but sophisticated, and the wine list is equally as sophisticated. Their house rosé is as delicious as anything I’ve tried. Pair that with sardines, toast, lemon and butter, and you’ll be set.
15 Quai Suffren, 83990 Saint-Tropez
Natural wines are really popular in France and Mamé is the first all natural, biodynamic wine bar in town. The wine list is robust, featuring wine from all over the country; and with a knowledgeable staff to guide you, you can’t go wrong. I particularly liked the Clos des b Le Rose, a locally produced wine which is exactly (thankfully) as described: “a far cry from the typical 'poolside rosés' that are ubiquitous in every ice bucket.”
